Portland Fashion Week

As a longtime hotbed of creativity for modern art, design, and urban development, Portland is being unveiled as fashion’s best-kept secret. On the runway since 2003, Portland Fashion Week is the second-longest running fashion week on the West Coast. PFW stages the freshest designers’ collections of the upcoming season through a week-long series of high-production runway shows at the hippest venues in downtown Portland, and exposes independent designers to style-savvy consumers, as well as buyers, and regional & national press.

PFW staged a green runway show of nationally-acclaimed sustainable designers at Portland City Hall with Portland’s Mayor, City Council and press in attendance, to educate policy-makers on eco-friendly practices in fashion and gain wider attention for this talented field—the first such initiative in the nation. This show promises even more green runway bests and sustainable styles.

On Tuesday October, 23, 2007 come and see Del Forte Denim’s™ hottest Spring line yet! 2008 promises to be another fashionable year with new fabrics, amazing new denims and the same impeccable design you have grown to love from Del Forte Denim™.

Speaking Engagement at Magic

The Organic Exchange and the Organic Trade Association has invited Tiera Del Forte to give a presentation on “Green and the Bottom Line” at the MAGIC Marketplace trade show which takes place August 27 to 30, 2007 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The seminar will run from 12 noon to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 28, 2007. The panel Tierra is speaking on will focus on the burgeoning organic fiber apparel market, challenges and opportunities in establishing wholesale and retail lines, and how and why organic apparel is being heralded by consumers and the media.

In Tierra’s own words:

“I wanted to achieve my dream of creating my own premium denim line while protecting the environment and the farmers. One step that we can take to reduce the strain on the environment is to use fabric that is grown without chemical pesticides or insecticides. I am able to source beautiful, finely woven stretch denim made with 100 percent organically grown cotton. Organic is win-win for everyone. Customers love it, ecologically responsible mills get rewarded, organic farms profit, and I get to feel good about the fabric I use. Aside from being kind to the planet, the denim I’ve chosen is unbelievably soft and has the best recovery of any fabric I’ve ever used.”

Farm Tour 2006

Thursday, October 19, 2006

A one-day tour of the San Joaquin Valley that challenged our perceptions about what agriculture is and what it could become. Organized by the Sustainable Cotton Project.

In mid October, when cotton was being harvested and farms throughout the state were at the height of activity, The Sustainable Cotton Project offered a one-day tour. Visitors traveled a central loop through the San Joaquin Valley, gaining a behind-the-scenes look at the many sides of conventional, biologically intensive pest management (BioIPM), and organic cotton production.

Del Forte Denim partners with the Sustainable Cotton Project to help its efforts to educate farmers and the public about sustainable and organic cotton farming.
